The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday said its enforcers in Metro Manila apprehended more than 5,700 motorists in the third quarter of 2024, mostly for defective vehicle accessories and not using seat belts. LTO-National Capital Region director Roque Verzosa III, said in a statement that 5,769 drivers were apprehended from July to September, with 2,451 cited for various violations of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. Verzosa said the group of violators, totaling 888 motorists, were apprehended for driving vehicles with defective accessories, devices, equipment, or parts. There were 355 cases involving unregistered motor vehicles, in accordance with the “No Registration, No Travel” policy. Other significant violations included driving while wearing slippers (299), reckless driving (294), failure to carry OR/CR while driving (200), obstruction (136), driving without a valid license (123), illegal change of color (63), illegal change of body (51), excess passengers (42) and disregarding traffic signs (23). During the same period, 1,625 motorists were apprehended for not using seat belt devices, a violation under the Seat Belts Use Act of 1999. —JEROME ANING
