Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hits Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the waters of Jose Abad Santos town in Davao Occidental on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake occurred at 8:16 a.m. and was located 125 kilometers (km) southeast of the municipality.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin with a depth of focus of 87 km.

Instrumental intensity I was recorded in Malungon, Sarangani.

The state seismologist warned of possible aftershocks.
