2 killed, 6 hurt as tree falls on passenger jeepney in Antipolo

MANILA, Philippines — Two people were killed and six others injured in a freak accident in Antipolo City on Wednesday afternoon when a big tree fell and pinned down a passenger jeepney they were riding in.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. while the passenger jeepney was travelling along the Sumulong Highway towards Masinag in Antipolo City.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police chief, said that at the time the jeepney was approaching Barangay De La Paz, the tree broke and fell on it.

Two people were pronounced dead on arrival at the Antipolo Community Hospital. Police identified one of them as April Capranto.

Anduyan said the six injured were Lorna Rodriguez, Cynthia Emplamado, Eduardo Cahilig, Lucila Cahilig, Mark Anthony Pelayo, and Alex Vio.
