Cloudy skies, rain showers due in parts of Luzon due to LPA

MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain showers are still expected in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, the state weather bureau said in its 4 p.m. bulletin on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said this is due to a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 165 kilometers (km) west of Coron, Palawan.

“Itong LPA na ito ay nagdadala ng maulap na papawirin at kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog sa Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, sa may Bicol region, sa may La Union, sa may Pangasinan, sa may Benguet, sa may Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, at Palawan,” Pagasa weather specialist Veronica Torres said in a 4 p.m. forecast.

(This low-pressure area is bringing overcast skies and scattered rains, along with lightning and thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol region, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.)

The LPA inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), however, remains unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, Pagasa said.

“Itong low-pressure area na ito, nananatiling mababa or unlikely na maging isang ganap na bagyo. Ito ring low-pressure area na ito ay naka-embed sa loob ng intertropical convergence zone o ITCZ na nakaaapekto sa Mindanao at Palawan,” Torres added.

(This low-pressure area remains low and is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression. It is also embedded within the intertropical convergence zone, which is affecting Mindanao and Palawan.)

Meanwhile, BARMM and Soccsksargen region may experience the same weather conditions due to the ITCZ.

“Samantalang itong ITCZ naman ay nagdadala rin ng pag-ulan sa may BARMM at Soccsksargen, kaya ingat sa ating mga kababayan na inuulan noong mga nakaraang araw pa sa banta ng pagbaha o pagguho ng lupa,” Torres added.

(Meanwhile, the ITCZ is also bringing rainfall to the BARMM and Soccsksargen regions, so we advise our fellow citizens who have been experiencing rain in recent days to be cautious and watch out for floods and landslides.)

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected in the rest of the country, the state weather bureau added.

Pagasa is also monitoring a tropical depression outside PAR, which is unlikely to enter the country’s borders based on its 4 p.m. bulletin.

The tropical depression was last spotted 2,600 km east of extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

No gale warning was raised by Pagasa in any of the country’s seaboards.
