Macasaet resigns as SSS chief, accepts party-list nomination
MANILA – Social Security System (SSS) President and Chief Executive Officer Rolando Ledesma Macasaet has resigned after accepting his nomination to represent a party-list.
Macasaet submitted his irrevocable resignation to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday.
In his letter, Macasaet informed the President that he would file his Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance as party-list nominee on Oct. 6, which, by operation of law and under the rules of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), ends his tenure at the SSS on that date.
He thanked the President for the opportunity to serve as chief of the state pension fund for private-sector workers.
Macasaet will run for a House of Representatives seat under the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Party-list.
Meanwhile, the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Party-list welcomed this development, with its spokesperson Fercival Yutan saying that the organization is happy with Macasaet’s decision to accept the nomination.
Article continues after this advertisement“As former chief of SSS and GSIS, Mr. Macasaet has a firm understanding of how the national pension system works and as a pensioner himself, he knows what are the limitations of these institutions – limitations which may be addressed through legislative representation,” Yutan said.
Article continues after this advertisementMacasaet also served as president and general manager of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) during the Duterte administration.
He injected innovations in the GSIS, including the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS), an ATM-like machine allowing pensioners and government employees to access their membership records and loan data.
Aside from his leadership roles in government-owned and -controlled corporations from 1988 to 2005, Macasaet has more than two decades of professional experience in financial services, banking, and public-private partnerships.
He previously worked at the Philippine National Bank and served as a board member of San Miguel Corp., Bank of Commerce, and Private Infrastructure and Development Corp., among others.
Macasaet obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
He finished an Executive Program in Finance at Columbia University, New York, and earned a Diploma in Management Development from the Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts. (PNA)
