MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Julian made landfall in southern Taiwan on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
According to the weather bureau’s 5 p.m. bulletin, Julian’s eye was 255 kilometers north northwest of Ibayat, Batanes.
It was moving east-northeastward at 10 km per hour, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph.
State meteorologists said Julian, despite re-entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, will not have a direct effect on the country.

Pagasa, however, still expects moderate to rough seas on coastal waters in Northern Luzon.
The cyclone is projected to weaken into a remnant low over Taiwan on Friday.
