Fire destroys nearly 200 houses in Mandaue City

CEBU CITY, Philippines—One hundred and ninety-three houses were destroyed in a fire at a depressed area Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City on Wednesday morning.

Fire Officer 3 Nilo Cosido of the Mandaue City fire department said they have yet to establish the cause of the blaze, which broke out at 8:16 a.m. and was placed under control at 8:51 a.m.

Roger Paller, public information officer of the Mandaue City government, said the city’s Department of Social Welfare Services  was still assessing the number of families affected.

The affected fire victims refused to go to the barangay gymnasium so the city government had to send tents to the fire site.
