MANILA, Philippines — Taal Volcano erupted Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs reported that Taal volcano had a phreatomagmatic eruption, which happens when erupting magma comes into contact with water.
The volcano, however, remains under Alert Level 1, which means that hydrothermal or tectonic activity beneath the volcano may be occurring.
Steam-driven, gas, or hydrothermal explosions can also occur without warning, Phivolcs added.
As of 4:32 p.m., the eruption at Taal Volcano has ceased.
