NBI task force revamped over ‘abhorrent deed’

MANILA, Philippines — The special task force of the National Bureau of Investigation underwent a “total overhaul” after a member committed “an abhorrent deed” during an operation.

In a statement on Monday, the NBI said it filed criminal charges against the agent over the act it described only as “illegal, unlawful, unethical, gruesome, grotesque and outrightly unacceptable.”

While the NBI did not specify the charges filed, it stated that the incident occurred during an operation on Sept. 11 involving a Makati clinic that was operating without a license.

The NBI said the task force was grounded after an investigation was launched and Director Jaime Santiago confronted the agent, who later resigned. —Gillian Villanueva
