Yulo joins Philippine Navy Reserve Force

MANILA, Philippines — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo has joined the Philippine Navy Reserve Force as Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Naval Public Affairs Office said it welcomed Yulo during a ceremony at its headquarters.

For his part, the 24-year-old gymnast thanked the Philippine Navy Reserve Force for the recognition.

“I am proud to have the privilege of being enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected in my lifetime,” Yulo said.

“Wearing this Navy uniform fills me with immense pride. With all my heart, I thank the Philippine Navy for this prestigious recognition. I will uphold its core values and inspire today’s youth, showing them that through sports, they too can serve our country,” he added.

Meanwhile, Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr. expressed confidence in Yulo as he noted the champion’s dedication and discipline.

“We know that when you commit to something, you give it your all. I am confident you will do the same as a reservist, standing alongside men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our nation,” Adaci’s message said as delivered by Maj. Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, commander of the Naval Reserve Command.

According to the Navy, the ceremony exemplifies its commitment “to nurturing exceptional individuals who embody the values of discipline, dedication, and service with the continuous mission to inspire the Filipino people and uplift the nation.”
