Class suspensions in several Luzon areas on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, are due to inclement weather caused by Super Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon). INQUIRER FILES

MANILA, Philippines — Class suspensions were ordered in several Luzon areas on Tuesday, October 1, because of inclement weather caused by Super Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon).

Areas with class suspensions at all levels in both public and private schools included AbraBenguetIlocos NorteIlocos SurLa Union, and Pangasinan.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Julian further intensified into a super typhoon early Tuesday morning with its center last located 205 kilometers west of Itabayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of 230 kph.

“Julian still has a window for brief intensification in the next 24 hours,” Pagasa added in its latest weather update.

Super Typhoon Julian is expected to make landfall along the southwestern coast of Taiwan on Wednesday morning or afternoon and leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday afternoon or evening.
