LPA off northern Luzon may become storm–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) has formed inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) 715 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon and may become a storm on Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.

The LPA is currently affecting Batanes Islands as well as mainland Cagayan, causing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers.

The rest of Luzon, on the other hand, will experience rains in the afternoon due to localized thunderstorms.

Also being monitored by the Pagasa are another LPA outside PAR located 1,450 km east of Eastern Visayas and a tropical depression 2,645 km east of Central Luzon.

The LPA is likely to dissipate and the tropical depression would not enter PAR, according to weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez.
