CEBU CITY – Acting Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia is anticipating the launching of the second processing line at the waste facility in Barangay Binaliw which is expected to improve materials recovery in December this year.

In a talk with officials of Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc. (PWS) last Sept. 20, Garcia offered to lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony once the second processing line would be completed.

The acting mayor, in a press statement, said he noticed a shift in how the operations are being handled now.

He was also happy after seeing the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) firsthand and learning about the planned enhancements, including the installation of the second processing line and the newly upgraded wastewater treatment plant.

Garcia requested PWS to submit a report on its short and long term plans on how to eradicate the smell from the facility as well as water treatment of run off water especially during heavy rains.

Garcia visited the Binaliw facility along with some councilors and other city officials on Sept. 20.

PWS officials briefed Garcia on the company’s transformation strategy, demonstrating how the MRF operates to recover and recycle waste.

PWS fully acquired the facility from ARN Central Waste Management Inc. in January 2023 with a plan of transforming the landfill into a modern MRF with the ultimate goal of recovering and recycling 80 percent to 90 percent of total waste received, significantly reducing landfill volumes.
