Motorcyclist dies after hitting parked truck in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A 58-year-old motorcycle rider died on Friday night after his vehicle accidentally bumped into a parked truck in Tiaong town in Quezon province.

Motorcyclist “Alfredo” was passing along the Maharlika Highway when he hit the rear portion of a truck that was temporarily parked at the shoulder of the road in Barangay (village) Lalig around 11:05 p.m. on September 20, a report from the Quezon police said.

Due to the strong impact of the collision, the rider, a resident of the locality, sustained grave head injury and died on the way to a hospital.

Investigators found out that truck driver Ernesto Castronuevo temporarily parked his vehicle to drink coffee. He was taken into custody as investigations continue.

The police said they found no driver’s license from the fatality.

The report did not state whether or not the victim was wearing a crash helmet, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

The parties concerned were open to an amicable settlement, according to the police.
