MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will check on reports that former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog received death threats during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an ambush interview on Thursday, PNP chief Rommel Marbil said the concerned unit of PNP handling this issue was the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG).
“We’ll check po. Ang concerned po dito is ‘yung PSPG po natin for any security po, no?” Marbil told reporters when asked if the PNP would investigate the alleged threats.
(We’ll check. The unit concerned here is our PSPG for any security matters.)
“Maybe I’ll ask the PSPG commander to talk to Mr. Mabilog kung kailangan niya po ng security (if he needs security),” he added.
Mabilog was accused of being involved in the drug trade during the Duterte administration.
