DAVAO CITY — Police are looking into the testimonies of former pastorals of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) which revealed that there were already deaths that happened allegedly involving the sect’s “angels of death,” Colonel Hansel Marantan, chief of the Davao City police, said on Thursday.

But Marantan refused to reveal more details except to say that the stories about the deaths came out during the testimony of the five victims who sought the police’s help to seek justice for what happened to them in Quiboloy’s hands when they were still minors serving as pastorals of the KJC.

Marantan said they were preparing to lodge more complaints against Quiboloy in court following the new testimonies.

FEATURED STORIES

Quiboloy, who is facing charges of sexual abuse, child abuse, and human trafficking before the Quezon City and Pasig City courts, was forced to surface on Sunday, September 8, as police prepared an assault on the Bible school building where he was hiding inside the KJC compound here. His surfacing and eventual arrest ended the police’s 16-day operation inside the compound.

Marantan said the victims were still 13 to 15 years old when they were allegedly abused by Quiboloy. Most of them came from broken families and in their desire to continue their education, sought the help of the Children’s Joy Foundation, which offered free education for children.

Marantan said, however, that while in the roster of the foundation, they were spotted to match the “standard of Quiboloy” and were eventually recruited to the KJC and were groomed to become members of the pastorals in the “innermost circle.”

“Quiboloy brought them to KJC compound to convert them to be pastorals of the innermost circle but before you can be members of the innermost circle, you have to undergo such sexual activities and I call it rape,” Marantan said.

He said they would also investigate an alleged death perpetrated by the so-called angels of death, based on the victims’ testimonies.

Marantan said the five victims who surfaced after the Senate hearing were minors when they served as pastorals in Quiboloy’s innermost circle about nine or 10 years ago. They were no longer connected with the religious sect and that some of them had escaped. The police chief also mentioned a girl inside the KJC who attempted to escape three times but failed.

According to Marantan, Quiboloy had armed followers referred to as the angels of death who maintained the climate of fear among his followers and prevented the minors who were abused from speaking out.

Marantan then urged more victims to come out and lodge complaints in court.

“This your chance to come out in the open. Pastor Quiboloy and the others are already arrested, you’ve seen how determined we are in implementing the warrant of his arrest, we want to help you,” Marantan said, addressing the victims. “Though we’re rather late but we are here now, we want to save you, don’t be afraid to come out.”
