MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has assured members that it covers hospitalization due to leptospirosis and dengue, two of the most common diseases in the country during the rainy season.

PhilHealth’s dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic benefit packages are currently at P13,000 and P16,000, respectively, while coverage for leptospirosis is at P14,300.

PhilHealth President Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. said these benefits were available year-round. Anyone could use it at accredited health facilities nationwide.

“Aside from dengue and leptospirosis, your PhilHealth is aggressively enhancing the other benefit packages to provide adequate financial risk protection to all our kababayan,” he added.

Ledesma earlier said the PhilHealth board had approved a hike in its package for severe dengue hemorrhagic fever from P16,000 to P47,000 (up by 193 percent), which was expected to take effect “soon.” —Dexter Cabalza
