1 dead in three-vehicle collision along Quezon's Maharlika Highway

MANILA, Philippines — A 22-year-old passenger died in a road mishap involving three vehicles along Maharlika Highway in Tiaong, Quezon last September 15, according to police.

In a report on Tuesday, the Calabarzon Police identified the victim as Monica Napoles, who was accompanied by Kent Floyd Azogue.

The investigation showed that the car driven by Azogue was traversing the southbound direction of the highway when it reportedly sideswiped a motorcycle, fell off the concrete pavement, and hit a passenger-type jeepney.

Police said Napoles sustained body injury and was immediately brought to Peter Paul Hospital in Candelaria, Quezon, but was declared dead on arrival by the duty physician.

Police said the Tiaong Municipal Police Station responded to a call about the crash around 4 p.m.

It likewise launched a hot pursuit operation against the 48-year-old jeepney driver Rolando Evangelista, who remains at large. His vehicle, however, was recovered on the same day around 5:35 p.m. at Sitio Baritan in Barangay Bulakin.
