Mpox cases in PH now at 18 – DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said that the total confirmed cases of mpox (formerly monkeypox) in the country for the current year are now 15 after logging one new case.

MANILA, Philippines — Three new cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) were recorded in the country, bringing the count to 18, Department of Health (DOH) chief Teodoro Herbosa said on Monday.

“As of August 18, labingwalo na po ang ating confirmed mpox cases,” Herbosa said in a press conference.

Five cases have recovered while 11 cases are still undergoing home isolation and have not transmitted the virus to others, the DOH said.

“Ang maganda rin, ang lahat ng 18 na na-pick up namin as of now, wala pang nahawang iba,” Herbosa said.

(What’s good is, that all the 18 cases we picked up have not yet spread the virus to others.)

“Wala silang epidemiological link,” he added.

(They have no epidemiological link.)

No deaths have been reported due to mpox so far.

The World Health Organization again declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern—the highest alert—after the surge of cases in African countries.
