MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed retired Police General Thompson Lantion as the new chairperson of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
According to Press Secretary Cesar Chavez, Lantion will assume his post officially on Wednesday, replacing former Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana.
Lantion took his oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Monday.

Apart from being a former cop, Lantion is also the secretary general of the political party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), which is chaired by Marcos.
In an earlier statement, Lorenzana congratulated Lantion on his appointment, expressing confidence that the latter would sustain and even surpass the progress the BCDA has made.
While he did not specifically state why he stepped down from the post, Lorenzana said he is “transitioning to a private life” but would still be willing to help the government in any way he can.
