A soldier was killed in an ambush staged by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bulan town in Sorsogon province on Friday, September 6.IROSIN, Sorsogon – A soldier was killed in an ambush staged by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bulan town in Sorsogon province on Friday, September 6, the military said in a report Saturday, September 7.

Corporal Rodel Felismino of the Philippine Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion died in what authorities described as a “treacherous attack” in Barangay (village) Calpi at around 10:45 a.m.

The Army’s 9th Infantry Division (9ID) reported that Felismino, along with his comrades, was riding a motorcycle when he was attacked. They were out for a community support program in the area, authorities said.

“He and his comrades were defenselessly ambushed while not in a combat mode,” said the 9ID in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Private First Class Jamil Forte was also hurt during the incident.

“His sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his courage will continue to inspire us as we move forward in our mission to protect the freedom and safety of our fellow Bicolanos,” said the 9ID.
