Pagasa monitors LPA, cloud clusters as monsoon affects Luzon Sept. 7

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) and cloud clusters forming outside and inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

In an early Saturday morning report, Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the LPA located on the northeastern boundary of the PAR may not develop into a typhoon within the next few days and won’t have any direct effect on the country.

The cloud clusters detected inside PAR, meanwhile, were forecast to become an LPA in the coming days – but will also not affect the country, according to Villamil.

“Sa kasalukuyan may mino-monitor din tayong isa pang cloud cluster dito sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon sa loob naman ng ating PAR,” the Pagasa expert said.

(Currently, we are also monitoring another cloud cluster here in the eastern part of Luzon within our PAR.)

“Wala rin itong epekto sa ating bansa ngunit patuloy natin itong mino-monitor dahil posible nga itong maging LPA sa mga susunod na araw,” he added.

(This also has no effect on our country, but we are continuously monitoring it because it could possibly develop into an LPA in the coming days.)

The southwest monsoon, on the other hand, was seen to continuously affect Luzon this Saturday, September 7.

Pagasa said the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to bring overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila and the rest of the region.

As for the rest of the country, Pagasa said slightly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms may be anticipated.
