MANILA, Philippines — An executive session at the Senate bared Sual, Pangasinan Mayor Dong Calugay’s possible involvement in Alice Guo’s escape from Philippine jurisdiction, according to Sen. Risa Hontiveros.
Senate subcommittee on justice chairperson Hontiveros bared the matter during her subpanel’s hearing regarding the case of Alice Guo, or Guo Hua Ping in real life, on Thursday.
“I wish to share that the executive session has surfaced a clear link to Mayor Calugay of Sual, Pangasinan kaya’t I really really hope that the good mayor will make himself available when he’s called. Huwag po sanang bigla kayong umalis sa bansa, Mayor,” said Hontiveros.
(I hope you don’t leave the country, mayor.)
Prior to suspending the hearing, Hontiveros named this certain government official.
“Kahit sinibak na sa pwesto si Mayor Guo, lumalabas na may iba namang mayor na maaaring gumagamit ng posisyon para tulungan siyang magtago at tumakas,” Hontiveros said.
(Even if Guo has been removed from her post, it shows that there are other mayors who are using their position to help the dismissed local official hide and escape.)
“We now have clear links pointing to the potential involvement of Sual mayor Dong Calugay,” she added.
During the hearing, Shiela, who was earlier tagged to be Alice’s sister, admitted that she knows Calugay through the dismissed Bamban mayor.

Shiela said she and Alice went out with Calugay to eat at a Filipino restaurant in Pangasinan before the pandemic. Shiela, however, insisted that she’s not aware whether Alice and Calugay are in a relationship or business partners.
Calugay was invited to the subpanel’s hearing, but he failed to personally appear. A medical certificate was sent to Hontiveros’ office indicating that the 53-year-old Sual mayor has dengue fever.
