LEGAZPI CITY — Classes at all levels in public and private schools in Camarines Norte were suspended after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Quezon province on Wednesday morning.
Gov. Ricarte Padilla said the suspension would allow authorities to assess and inspect school buildings and other infrastructure thoroughly.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the epicenter of the tectonic quake at 7:16 a.m., located 43 kilometers northeast of Jomalig, Quezon, at a depth of 1 kilometer.

Phivolcs recorded Intensity III in Quezon City; Intensity IV in Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte, and Intensity III in Mauban, Guinayangan, Alabat, and General Nakar in Quezon province; Daet town in Camarines Norte, and Tinambac town in Camarines Sur.
The quake was felt at Intensity II in Dingalan in Aurora province; Gumaca, Lopez, Mulanay, and Calauag in Quezon province; Sagnay, Pasacao, and Ragay in Camarines Sur ; Los Baños in Laguna; Marikina City, and Tagaytay City.
At Intensity I in Dolores and Lucban in Quezon; Calamba City in Laguna; Boac in Marinduque; Iriga City in Camarines Sur; Antipolo City and Tanay in Rizal; San Rafael and Marilao in Bulacan; Tabaco City in Albay, and the cities of Pasig and Caloocan.
As of 9 a.m., Phivolcs recorded 10 aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 1.5 to 4.9.
No damage has been reported, but Phivolcs said aftershocks could still occur.
