10 smaller tremors hit Quezon island town after 5.6 earthquake

LUCENA CITY — Ten other tremors hit Jomalig town in Quezon province after the 5.6-magnitude earthquake rocked the island town at 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

A 4.9 magnitude tremor followed the first earthquake at 7:55 a.m., with a depth of one kilometer.

Two 3.2-magnitude earthquakes were recorded at 7:24 a.m. and 8:04 a.m.; 2.7 at 8:05 a.m.; 2.4 at 7:20 a.m. and 8:07 a.m.; 2.2 at 8:14 a.m.; 1.8 at 7:29 a.m.; and 1.5 at 7:32 a.m. and 8:32 a.m..

All quakes were of tectonic origin.

The provincial government of Quezon suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools in Burdeos, Jomalig, and Patnanungan island towns due to the earthquakes.
