MANILA, Philippines — Four vessels ran aground in Navotas City due to strong waves brought by Tropical Storm Enteng, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The PCG on Tuesday said the barge Karangalan 2 was moored at the San Miguel Corporation Shipping Lighterage Wharf when its forward ropes accidentally broke, causing it to drift around 6:00 a.m.
PCG’s tugboat Limay 3 towed Karangalan 2 to a deeper part of the sea.
However, at 9:15 a.m. Karangalan 2, which was already anchored, was once again dragged towards the shallow portion of Barangay Tangos North due to strong winds and big waves.
Motor tanker EBC Marical VI has remained aground since Monday at Barangay San Roque.
The vicinity waters of Barangay Bagumbayan North also saw barge ASC Regine and motor tanker Patriot III running aground, damaging the seawall in the area.
The PCG said its tugboats are still on standby and will conduct towing operations on Karangalan 2 and EBC Marical VI once the weather improves.
The owners of ASC Regine and motor tanker Patriot III are also waiting for better weather before launching their towing operations.
On Monday, a passenger ship caught fire in Navotas City after it was bumped by a cargo vessel amid rains brought by Tropical Storm Enteng.

Enteng brought strong winds and heavy rains over most parts of Luzon and some areas in Visayas. It killed at least 13 people, tore off roofs, uprooted trees, toppled electric posts, and turned streets into rivers.
