Marikina River on 2nd alarm as rains continue due to TS Enteng
MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina River reached second alarm by mid-morning Monday as water level continued to rise amid persistent rains due to Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi).
The Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) said in a a Facebook post that the river hit 16 meters high at 8:32 a.m. and 17 meters by 10:55 a.m.
It was under first alarm from 7:51 a.m. after its water rose to 15 meters high.

If the river’s water increases to 18 meters high, the local government may impose mandatory evacuation of residents.
Article continues after this advertisementThe state weather service’s 8:00 a.m. weather bulletin indicated that Enteng was 100 kilometers north-northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte, and moving 15 kilometers per hour (kph) at west-northwest direction.

During Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) in 2009, water level at Marikina River reached 21.5 meters, according to Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro. It was the highest water level recorded in the river’s history.
Typhoon Ondoy claimed more than 700 lives in Metro Manila and other regions back in September 2009.
Last July, the water level at Marikina River reached 20.7 meters amid persistent torrential rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat, that was enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi), which was pummeling northern Luzon at that time.
