Tropical Storm Enteng intensifies; Signal No. 2 up in 7 areas

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi) further intensifies, with tropical cyclone wind signal no. 2 raised over seven areas in Luzon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to the state weather bureau, Enteng strengthened into a Tropical Storm around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Based on Pagasa’s typhoon bulletin as of 5 a.m., Enteng was last spotted moving over the coastal waters of Vinzons, Camarines Norte at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) west northwestward.

It carries maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

In terms of rainfall, over 200 millimeters (mm) of rain is expected to pour over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Polillo Island, and the southern portion of mainland Quezon.

Below are the rainfall warning forecast over other areas:

  • 100-200 mm: Aurora, the rest of Quezon, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon
  • 50-100 mm: Isabela, Quirino, Bulacan, Metro Manila, the rest of Calabarzon, Marinduque, and Romblon

“Forecast rainfall is generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas. Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified,” Pagasa warned.
