MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos Jr. has issued two proclamations expanding a special economic zone (SEZ) in Malvar, Batangas and designating a building and its surrounding land as an economic zone in Iloilo City.

The President issued Proclamations No. 670 on Aug. 27 expanding the Lima Technology Center in Malvar, which is operated by the Aboitiz group.

He also issued Proclamation 668 creating the Mandurriao SEZ in Iloilo City, upon the recommendation of the board of directors of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza).

Both presidential proclamations were signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Proclamation 670 designates 13 parcels of land to be included as part of the Lima Ecozone, an industrial park managed by the Aboitiz Group since 2010.

Growth

As of 2021, the Lima ecozone covered an area of 794 hectares, but has continued to grow over the last few years.

Last month, the President issued Proclamation 639 declaring five parcels of land totaling 9.8 ha for inclusion in the Lima Ecozone.

In April last year, the President also issued Proclamation 204, which designated several parcels of land with a total area of 44.5 ha in Barangays Santiago, Luta Sur and Bagong Pook, still in Malvar, for the expansion of Lima Ecozone.

Later in October, the President again issued Proclamation 381, also designating 12 parcels of land totaling 13.3 ha in Barangays Luta Sur and San Pedro to be included in the coverage of the ecozone.
