Caloocan plebiscite shows voters willing to divide barangay into 6 areas

Voters of the most populated barangay in Caloocan City agreed to divide their area into six independent villages, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said following a plebiscite.

MANILA, Philippines — Voters of the most populated barangay in Caloocan City agreed to divide their area into six independent villages, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said following a plebiscite.

Based on information from the Barangay Plebiscite Board of Canvassers sent to reporters on Sunday morning, 22,854 residents voted “yes” to divide Barangay 176, also known as Barangay Bagong Silang, while 2,584 voted “no.”

The new barangays will be called 176-A, 176-B, 176-C, 176-D, 176-E, and 176-F.

The plebiscite was held pursuant to Republic Act 11993, approved on April 3, 2024.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the delegation of the military and the police to the plebiscite held on August 31.
