MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck the waters off Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
It was recorded at 8:49 a.m. to be located 237 kilometers (km) from the town.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin with a depth of focus of 10 km.
Aftershocks are expected, according to the state seismologist.
