4.9-magnitude earthquake felt in Davao Oriental town

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shocked a Davao Oriental town early Friday, August 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck Davao Oriental town early Friday, August 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

According to an information bulletin, the epicenter of the 4.9 magnitude earthquake was located east of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental on Friday, 1:21 a.m.

The tremor is tectonic in origin and has a depth of 128 kilometers.

In an earlier bulletin, the magnitude of the earthquake was raised to 5.1.

The state seismologist recorded Instrumental Intensity I in Malungon, Sarangani.

Phivolcs said that no damages and aftershocks are expected.

Cateel town in Davao Oriental on Tuesday got hit on Tuesday by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake.
