A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shocked a Davao Oriental town early Friday, August 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake shocked a Davao Oriental town early Friday, August 23, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

According to an information bulletin, the epicenter of the 4.9 magnitude earthquake was located east of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental on Friday, 1:21 a.m.

The tremor is tectonic in origin and had a depth of 128 kilometers.

In an earlier bulletin, the magnitude of the earthquake was raised to 5.1.
