Second tranche of SLEX toll hike takes effect

The Toll Regulatory Board will do a "thorough study and investigation" on the Autosweep system glitch that messed up traffic.

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists traversing the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) now have to pay higher tolls as the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) started implementing the second tranche of the rate hike on Monday.

In a Facebook post, the TRB said the following adjustments took effect on Aug. 19:

“It may be recalled in its Consolidated Resolution dated 17 May 2023 for the 2012 and 2014 Petitions, the TRB approved the first periodic toll rate adjustments at the SLEx since 2011,” the TRB’s post reads.

“Upon compliance with the publication and posting of bond requirements, the TRB issued the Notice to Start Collection for the 2nd Tranche on 01 August 2024. SMC [San Miguel Corporation] SLEx Inc. and MATES recently notified TRB that they intend to collect the 2nd Tranche starting 19 August 2024,” it added.
