Security for river summit

ILOILO CITY—-The police will intensify security measures during the three-day International River Summit, which will start on May 30 and will be attended by hundreds of delegates, including President Aquino.

The police will deploy 1,000 personnel to provide security for the summit that will be held in Iloilo City from May 30 to June 1.

Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., Police Regional Office 6 director, said they had created two task groups, one to focus on the entire event and the second to ensure security during the visit of President Benigno Aquino III on June 1.

Aside from the President, 86 foreign and 761 local and national delegates have confirmed their attendance to the event that will be held at  Centennial Hotel in Iloilo City.

The first international river summit aims to stimulate discussion, learning and action on river basin governance, biodiversity management and ecotourism, and  climate change and disaster risk reduction.  Karen V. Bermejo, Inquirer Visayas
