LIST: Aug 19 class suspensions due to volcanic smog from Taal
MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Batangas and Cavite provinces announced class suspensions or a shift to modular learning on Monday due to volcanic smog from Taal.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council of Talisay town in Batangas, there is an “increased presence of volcanic smog (vog) in the area.”
“This is due to the ongoing degassing activity of Taal Volcano,” it also said in a Facebook post.
The volcanic smog prompted schools in the following areas to totally suspend classes or at least cancel face-to-face classes for August 19:
Batangas

- San Pascual (classes will shift to modular or online distance learning)
- Ibaan
- Lobo (classes will shift to modular or online distance learning)
- Padre Garcia

Cavite
The city and municipal governments encouraged residents to wear face masks to reduce exposure to the volcanic smog.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said it is in a “low level of volcanic unrest.”
