Manila bus collision kills 70-year-old woman, injures 15 others

MANILA, Philippines—A 70-year-old woman was killed while 15 others were injured on Monday morning after two Pandacan Transport buses figured in a collision in Manila, police said.

Senior Police Officer 4 Cerio Macaraig identified the fatality as Erlinda Magallanes, who was said to be among the passengers of the bus driven by Arnel Ampinopio.

Ampinopio told police that he lost control of the bus (NVC 585) after the brakes failed along Otis Street in Pandacan, Manila, ramming the other Pandacan bus (TYV 527) driven by Reynato Cierva.

Four passengers from Ampinopio’s bus were hurt while the rest were from the other bus, Macaraig said. The drivers also sustained bruises because of the accident.

Due to the impact, the windshield of the bus driven by Ampinopio was shattered. The rear portion of the other bus also incurred damages.
