MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck waters off Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The temblor occurred 27 kilometers (km) northwest of the island at 7:56 a.m., the state seismologist noted.
Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 km.

It added that the shaking registered Instrumental Intensity I in the cities of Laoag and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
The Calayan municipal disaster risk reduction management office recorded no damage and injuries due to the earthquake but villagers have been cautioned to be ready for possible aftershocks, disaster office worker Robert Jeo Arirao told Inquirer in a private message.
Phivolcs, however, said it is not expecting any aftershock or damage to properties following this earthquake. — with a report from Villamor Visaya Jr., Inquirer Luzon
