Fair, warm Friday weather nationwide

Pagasa: Fair, warm Friday weather

MANILA, Philippines — It will be a fair and warm Friday especially in non-mountainous areas in Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja, in an early morning update, said the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is only affecting extreme northern Luzon.

“Ngayong araw ng Friday asahan pa rin sa malaking bahagi ng bansa ang fair weather conditions lalo na sa may Luzon. Kapag sinabi nating fair, wala naman tayong aasahang tuluy-tuloy na malalakas na ulan except sa Batanes at Babuyan Islands kung saan nandoon pa lamang ang southwest monsoon,” said Estareja.

(Fair weather is still expected today in large parts of the country, especially in Luzon. When we say fair, we don’t expect continuous heavy rains except in Batanes and Babuyan Islands where the southwest monsoon continues to prevail.)

“At dahil fair weather ngayong araw, asahan ang mataas na temperatura in many areas lalo na sa mga kapatagan dito sa may Luzon,” he added.

(And because of fair weather today, expect high temperatures in many areas, especially in the plains of Luzon.)

Estareja said air temperature in Cagayan and Isabela could reach up to 35 degree celsius,  up to 32 degrees celsius in the Ilocos region and 34 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila and nearby areas.

“[S]o iwasan po munang magbilad sa araw ngayong araw from 10 am hanggang 3 pm,” said Estareja.

(So avoid exposure to the sun today from 10 am to 3 pm.).

Forecast temperature range in other key areas on Friday

  • Cebu – 26 to 33 degrees celsius
  • Tacloban – 28 to 32 degrees celsius
  • Iloilo – 26 to 33 degrees celsius
  • Puerto Princesa – 26 to 32 degrees celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands – 26 to 32 degrees celsius
  • Davao – 27 to 34 degrees celsius
  • Cagayan de Oro – 26 to 32 degrees celsius
  • Zamboanga – 26 to 34 degrees celsius

Estareja said the fair weather nationwide is expected to prevail in the next few days.

“Maaaring magkaroon tayo ng monsoon break na tinatawag or wala tayong aasahang habagat over the next two days. Asahan din ang mainit at maalinsangan na panahon kaya patuloy ang paalala sa ating mga kababayan, bagamat wala naman tayong inaasahang inclement weather na tinatawag at pwedeng pwede naman ang outdoor activities…. [ay] nandyan pa rin ang banta ng mainit na panahon,” he added.

(We may have a monsoon break, we may not expect monsoon rains over the next two days. Expect hot and humid weather, so we are reminding the public —  although we do not expect inclement weather and that outdoor activities are still allowed, there’s still the threat of hot and humid weather.)

Estareja said it is uncertain as to when the “strong southwest monsoon” would return.
