MANILA, Philippines — A suspect reportedly involved in “basag kotse” modus, or the act of smashing the windows of vehicles to steal valuables, was arrested in Quezon City on Wednesday, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
In a report on Thursday, NCRPO identified the 36-year-old suspect as Sonny Caro, who was apprehended by authorities hours after he reportedly robbed a business owner’s vehicle along Barangay Bahay Toro.

The victim, identified as Jerome Dimayuga, said he discovered that the left rear window of his vehicle had been smashed and learned that his P33,000, as well as branded sunglasses worth P5,000, had been stolen.
NCRPO said a witness gave Dimayuga information on the suspect’s whereabouts, which helped police locate Caro.

Recovered from the suspect are pairs of sandals, branded shoes, and an iPhone. However, police said the P33,000 and branded sunglasses were not found on Caro’s belongings.
The suspect is now in the custody of the QCPD, and appropriate charges will be filed against him.
