WHO declares mpox outbreaks in Africa a global health emergency

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the mpox outbreaks in Congo and elsewhere in Africa a global emergency on Wednesday, with cases confirmed among children and adults in more than a dozen countries and a new form of the virus spreading. Few vaccine doses are available on the continent.

Earlier this week, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the mpox outbreaks were a public health emergency, with more than 500 deaths, and called for international help to stop the virus’ spread.

Senate gets 66% satisfaction rating while House gets 60% in SWS survey

Filipinos are more content with the Senate than with the House of Representatives, but both institutions posted lower satisfaction ratings compared to the previous survey, according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Held on June 23 to July 1, the Second Quarter SWS survey published on Wednesday showed that 66 percent were satisfied and 16 percent were dissatisfied with the performance of the Senate, while 60 percent were satisfied and 18 percent were dissatisfied with the House.

Alice Guo’s camp to appeal Ombudsman’s dismissal order

The camp of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is planning to file a motion for reconsideration before the Office of the Ombudsman over its earlier decision to dismiss her from government service, according to her legal counsel Stephen David.

David revealed this in a text message on Wednesday when asked for Guo’s reaction to the Ombudsman’s order.
