The city council of Manila is set to file a resolution to declare August 4 as Carlos Yulo Day to mark the gymnast’s twice-in-a-row golden podium finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

MANILA, Philippines — The city council of Manila is set to file a resolution to declare August 4 as Carlos Yulo Day to mark the gymnast’s twice-in-a-row golden podium finish in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna on Wednesday said that the date, when Yulo won his second gold medal, is set to be declared as a working holiday.

“The Manila council will pass a resolution tomorrow (August 15),” Lacuna said in a statement in Filipino.

Yulo, 24, a native of Tondo district, clinched his first gold on Saturday (Aug. 3) and his second on Sunday (Aug. 4).

The bemedalled gymnast is set to receive P10 million from the Philippine Sports Commission, under Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.

Yulo is also set to receive P6 million from the House of Representatives as well as a fully furnished three-bedroom condominium unit worth P24 million in McKinley Hill from Megaworld, and other pledges of free lifetime food, supplies, and services from private companies.

A heroes’ welcome parade for Yulo and other Olympians is still being held as of posting, which is expected to stretch from Aliw Theater to Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

“We just had our best Olympics,” Lacuna also said. “Let us all savor this historic moment.”
