LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The municipal government in this town has started using a siren every 4 p.m. to remind residents of daily cleaning as a preventive measure against dengue.

“We sound the siren every 4 o’clock as a reminder to our constituents to clean and destroy mosquito breeding sites,” Mayor Romeo Salda said on the sidelines of the Linggo ng Kabataan (Youth Week) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Week celebration at the municipal gymnasium on Monday.

The municipality has 1,210 dengue fever cases from January to Aug. 2.

“We were told that we have one death this morning, a worker from the vegetable industry who is a packer or a porter,” Salda said.

Salda said he had ordered all 16 villages’ health stations and the rural health unit to activate their dengue fast lanes to attend to the patients immediately.

Fumigation and misting have been ordered in areas needing additional measures to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

“We are asking our constituents to do their share of cleaning their surroundings and homes while the barangays and the municipality help each other clean the public areas for possible breeding grounds,” Salda said. (PNA)
