MADELYN Carter and Mark Anthony Bernardo topped the 42-kilometer race of the second Kawasan Falls Marathon in Badian town, southwestern Cebu.
Carter took advantage of the absence of some of Cebu’s top female runners to win the women’s title of the race, whose route passed through the towns of Badian, Malabuyoc and Alegria.
Carter finished with a time of three hours, 50 minutes and 27 seconds.
Bernardo outran organizer Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III to top the mens side with a time of three hours, 52 minutes and 34 seconds. Larrazabal clocked 3:55.41.
Lana Jacel Mercado finished second place (4:13:58) and followed by Virginia Parajenog (4:18:37).
Elvin Rey Flores rounded off the top three male runners with a time of 3:55:42.
Meanwhile, multi-awarded trail runner Merlita-Arias Dunkin lorded the 21k female category with a time of 1:57:51.
Joey Wacan won the crown in the men’s side (1:48:04).
Around 1,000 runners joined the race, among them was Senator Pia Cayetano./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
