600 families displaced in Bacoor City fire

LUCENA CITY — A massive fire broke out early Wednesday, Aug. 7, and left about 600 families homeless in Bacoor City, Cavite province.

The blaze of still unknown origin erupted at 12:30 a.m. in Sitio (sub-village) Wawa in Barangay Zapote 3, the Region 4A police reported citing information from the local police.

The police said the fire started in wooden houses in the area and quickly spread.

The Bacoor Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO) reported that the fire was declared under control at 2:55 a.m. by combined efforts of local firefighers assisted by volunteers and firemen from neighboring municipalities.

The victims were temporarily settled in an evacuation center where local social workers were attending to them.

As of 2 p.m., the police and BDRRMO have yet to issue their reports if there were injuries or casualties during the blaze.

Authorities were still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
