Fireman killed in Quezon town blaze

LUCENA CITY — A firefighter was killed in a fire that occurred in Pagbilao town in Quezon province on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The Pagbilao fire station identified their lost comrade as Fire Officer 1 Marlon Atis, 25.

“Firefighters never die, they just burn forever, in the hearts of the people they saved. Firefighters save more than homes. They save hearts, memories, and dreams,” the Pagbilao fire station said in a memorial posted on social media.

It added: “You will never be forgotten, our dearest brother. Our snappy salute, sir.”

Quezon police, in a report on Wednesday, Aug. 7, said the fire broke out around 5 a.m. at Pornobi Street in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

The police said it was accidentally “electrocuted on a melted live wire.”

He was rushed to the MMG Hospital in neighboring Lucena City but died during treatment around 6:06 a.m.

The fire burned a food stall and a sari-sari store. Authorities pegged the damage at P100,000.
