MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat, is forecast to bring overcast skies and rain over four areas in Luzon on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
“Sa ngayon ang pinakanakakaapekto sa ating bansa ay ang southwest monsoon or habagat at ito ang magdadala ng pag-ulan sa may western section ng at Central at Southern Luzon,” Pagasa expert Obet Badrina said during an early morning public weather report.
(As of now, the southwest monsoon affects the country the most, and will bring rains in the western section of Central and Southern Luzon.)

Specifically, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may see isolated rain showers on Wednesday due to the southwest monsoon, said Badrina.
Badrina also said that Pagasa is currently monitoring a tropical depression and a low-pressure area (LPA). But both do not affect the country so far.

The LPA inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) was spotted 575 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the tropical depression outside PAR was located 2,005 east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
“Wala direktang epekto sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa itong tropical depression na nasa sa labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility at maliit din ang tiyansang ito’y pumasok ng PAR,” Badrina said.
(This tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility has no direct effect on the country and has a small chance of entering PAR.)
Pagasa did not raise gale warnings over any seaboards nationwide on Wednesday.
