Makati allots over P100 million for teachers’ incentives for 2024
MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Makati has earmarked more than P100 million for several incentives for its teaching and non-teaching personnel this year.
Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay on Tuesday said P103.5 million was allotted for Department of Education (DepEd) employees in the city.
“We deeply value our public school teachers in Makati and their role in shaping the future of our youth,” Binay said in a statement.

“Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and their well-being is of paramount importance to us in Makati. We regard them as Makatizens who deserve our full support in every way possible,” she added.
Article continues after this advertisementOf the total amount, P77.5 million is for the P3,000 monthly allowance for public school teachers in the city.
Article continues after this advertisementTeaching-related staff and non-teaching personnel also receive P3,000 monthly allowance, with a budget of P5.2 million and P4.3 million, respectively.
The local government has also earmarked P14.5 million for the P6,000 fringe benefit of DepEd employees in the city to be given in December.
Aside from this, the city has been distributing customized teacher’s kits every October in line with Teachers’ Month celebration since 2019.
Binay has vowed to help the efforts of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara to improve the benefits of teachers.—Ysabel Escalona, trainee
