KORONADAL CITY An unidentified gunman shot dead an off-duty police officer near a housing subdivision in General Santos City past 3 a.m. Sunday, August 4, police said.

Patrolman Jobert Moremonte, 29, a resident of Barangay Dadiangas North, was driving his Yamaha NMAX motorbike on his way to his place of assignment in Glan, Sarangani when he was ambushed in the city’s Purok Mapagmahal, Agan Greenville subdivision, Barangay Baluan, according to General Santos City Police Director Colonel Nicomedes Olaivar, Jr.

The slain police officer, a member of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, 2nd platoon of 1201st company, sustained three gunshot wounds in the head and body and died on the spot.

Olaivar said the police were investigating the case.
