MANILA, Philippines – Tagum Water Company, a subsidiary of Manila Water’s Non-East Zone arm Manila Water Philippines Ventures, recently marked its 4th year of operations.

In 2015, Davao Norte Water, a consortium of Manila Water and iWater, Inc., formalized a joint venture agreement with the Tagum City Water District for a 15-year water project that will supply an additional 38 million liters of water per day (MLD) to Tagum City.

Under the public-private partnership, Tagum Water Company undertook the construction of a bulk water supply system for Tagum City that includes an intake structure through riverbank filtration, a water treatment plant, transmission pipeline, and a water reservoir, harnessing raw water from the Hijo River.

The project is expected to deliver 26 MLD within the first to third year after commissioning, 32 MLD within the sixth year, and 38 MLD on the succeeding years until reaching the fifteenth year of delivery.

With the conclusion of the commissioning period of the water treatment plant, Tagum Water started its operations in 2020.

In 2022, MWPV assumed 100% ownership of Davao Norte Water after the purchase of 100% shares of iWater, Inc. in the consortium, effectively increasing MWPV’s ownership of Tagum Water to 90%.

Despite setbacks in the construction of its facilities due to natural calamities, operational hurdles, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Tagum Water takes pride in its unwavering commitment in providing safe, potable and reliable water supply to the community.

Currently, approximately 65% of Tagum City’s water supply is being delivered by Tagum Water, serving over 200,000 residents.

Tagum Water also continues to employ innovations in its operations to ensure quality of water being supplied.

Recently completed projects are the Scrubber Project for chlorine system and leak monitoring and the Granular Activated Carbon Replacement Project which will enhance the GAC filter process for treated water production compliant to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW).

In an anniversary celebration organized by Tagum Water, the business unit expressed its appreciation to its team members and stakeholders for the resilience and adaptability they showed in the interest of public service.

“We are all working towards the same goal: to be able to continuously serve and deliver our service obligations while pursuing our commitment to innovation, customer service and sustainability. Despite challenges, I am confident that we can push further with everyone’s support,” said Fhatima Fernandez, Operations Manager of Tagum Water.
